Michigan Child Welfare Celebrates Happy Medicaid Expansion Day!

Happy Medicaid Expansion Day!

Today is the day that Michigan may soon let a sigh of relief for its child welfare system.

Due to massive federal financial penalties in funding cuts and the possibility of even more as a result of extremely egregious fiscal activities in child welfare, and being under a modified federal court settlement agreement, and having no oversight of its own contracts, Michigan has a plan for child welfare reform and I like it.

Accountability and liability is shifted to the contracted agencies and counties.

It seems the majority of child welfare services are to be coded under mental health, funded by Medicaid.  The Medicaid expansion will inject a much need stimulus into the economy by creating jobs and providing much needed services in the community service sector.

Community partnerships are to be created as an oversight component.

The only area not addressed was Michigan Children's Institute which needs to be dismantled because it is nothing but a waste of money.

DHS still needs to remove upper-echelon administrators who were responsible for the conditions that led to federal intervention, like Steve Yager.  I hate him.  Seriously and it is personal.
